Communication, Engagement, and Empowerment

Have you heard the following phrases?

”But I have already shown them that and they don't listen!”

“It’s their culture they can’t do that. They don't want to stretch themselves, they just want to keep doing things the same way.”

Or worse, still: “I have been doing this for 15 years I know my staff and they just need can’t do that. They are not critical thinkers. They don’t do that stuff.“

Research shows us that when we support our people and refrain from constraining them, they feel encouraged and supported. They feel empowered and they will step up and be exactly what you are seeking from them.

Enabling people to reach their full potential is part of our charter as leaders and it is quite an easy shift in the way we do things.

We hold the power to develop people and to allow them to stretch and work outside of their boundaries so when we communicate in a way that instils growth, we build teams that work collectively. They strive to become better versions of themselves and also look at ways to lift those around them.

Change in culture and in our business is about us and how we want to navigate those changes. Once we commit to communicating effectively, we allow others to hear us and this will elicit a different response to what you may have experienced in the past.

This too is training, but you must first be open to listening to that internal voice and then engaging in a way that will lift those around you.

Engage with the view to empower (leave power and control aside). Be prepared to speak and be heard in a way that works best for others. When you begin with this, and are patient, recognising milestones, you will see the growth that comes from within those around you.

When you see the world through your own lenses, accept it for what it is: yours.

If you want to truly enable and empower those around you, ask them what you can do better to support their learning and break it down with them. Go through a simple exercise or better still seek out the support of experts that can facilitate that with you.

Growth and profits in a business are driven through its workforce. When you genuinely invest in your people and empower them, you truly enable them to succeed.

It's not about them doing it your way. It's about them doing it their way and achieving the best outcome.

Are you prepared for the change you ask of others? It is up to you how you do it. Do it well and everyone succeeds.
