A true mentor listens to understand

We often say that we hear what others are telling us, but do we really take the time to “understand” or are we simply doing what we have been taught?

For as long as I can remember –we are taught to listen so that we can respond. We are asked to place our hand up and answer a question or share what we believe we have been asked to interpret in the discussion we are involved in.

We often assume that people are asking us to solve something for them when they share their story/ their problem – but most of the time, they just want to be heard.

When people share something with us – they are often processing things for themselves – they just need someone to hear them – they need to talk out loud and be acknowledged for what they are saying and how they are feeling.

Here is how we listen to understand. In that moment we are present – attentive and taking in what those around us want to share with us. In that moment, we hold them is a sacred space and make them feel valued and heard.

If you are ready to be heard and want to take that opportunity to step out on your own, take your first step and book a FREE 15minute talk. Don’t hold back – Don’t second guess yourself.

You deserve to be heard and, more importantly, you deserve to step out on your own and create a life that you deserve.
