Your Belief - Your Outcome
Your belief system is put to the test most days, but when you are under stress it takes it up a notch or 10. So the question: is How do you respond?
Most of us don’t stop to think about what our belief system is, let alone what happens to us in these moments of stress because we tend to react and keep driving forward or, maybe, we simply become stuck?
Taking action is bout investing in yourself
When we begin to reflect on this, we begin to understand our internal dialogue and the stories that we tell ourselves. Taking this opportunity to invest in yourself is developing your skills and to some extent developing your muscles - your “brain” muscle, your “belief” muscle. It is a little like going to the gym and working on specific parts of your body to strengthen them.
Your ability to focus and drill down on what you are experiencing at different stages and what your beliefs are in those moments is an important stage of your development (personally and professionally). Taking action is about taking control. After all, you want to ensure that you achieve the outcome you desire, and you can only do that if you have the ability to understand the situation and what occurs in those moments.
Starting at the very beginning is vital so that you understand exactly where you are, where you want to be, and how to get there. These opportunities enable you to crystallise a vision and even your passion. Most people don’t recognise the relevance in this process and how it forms part of your investment in yourself.
You see, once we stop that journey of learning through School, University, Courses, etc. and begin the journey of “career”, investing in ourselves goes to the “backbench” because the only driver we focus on is getting a job. But the question we seldom seek at that stage is: “what outcome do I want?”
This investment in yourself is about your self-belief. The belief in who you are and what you want to achieve. Having this at the top of your mind has been lacking in people, which is why we see so many people disenfranchised. This, together with a lack of self-belief, creates a sense of loss – or simply feeling stuck.
Get on your back - get to your destination
Having that belief in yourself is like getting on a bike: when you get on a bike, you take control. You are holding onto that steering wheel and deciding on the direction. You decide when you jump off. You decide how fast to pedal and when to really dig deep, stand up and push hard so that you can get to the top of the Hill. That steering leads you to exactly where you want to be!
Breaking things down and keeping it simple
Sometimes, breaking things down in such simple terms is what people need to hear and see so that they too can take control. More importantly the “soft and fluffy” use of the words “believe in yourself” becomes something that they can actually relate to and understand. It is about your ability to deliver the outcomes you want!
Breaking things down in business is what I do so that I can create a path forward that is simple and clear to everyone across the business. This process then creates another level of clarity that drives the people in the business, because I apply the same logic and theory with all involved.
Businesses are about people. Everyone involved contributes in one way or another and their belief in what the business does will determine the success of the business. So, you can see that the same logic applies in business as it does to people on an individual level.
Belief sits at the core and drives an outcome – successful or not. You need to be able to see the outcome you want to drive for yourself. If you can see yourself as part of that journey forward then you need to take an interest in what that actually means.
Stay in tune with your beliefs, ensure that your outlook stays on track. You don’t want the wheels on your bike to go flat, so you check the pressure in the tires. This applies to constantly checking in on your beliefs and your internal dialogue and ensuring that your outcomes align and are on track.
Remember that this is not a once-off process. You need to keep pedalling and checking the pressure on your tires. You need to oil your bike, just like you need to keep exercising those muscles – strengthening your beliefs just like you strengthen your muscles.
Taking it to the next level
For those of you who believe that you have a strong sense of belief in yourself, I encourage you to make yourself accountable to someone so that you can build on your skill. Why? Because when you make yourself accountable to someone, you make it real. It’s out there. I can assure you that it will add another layer of your investment in yourself. Sharing your belief and voicing it, solidifies your position. When you can bring yourselves to tell someone else, you will build a much stronger internal dialogue.
Sharing your belief will deliver your outcome and the power that will bring others on the journey with you.
Back yourself and create the belief system that you deserve!
